Title of the idea: Synthesis of Benzyl pyridines
Author of the idea: holladc
Email of the author rlfcrd@hotmail.com
Key words for search: Pyridine, phenylaceticacid, sodium acetate
Explain briefly the idea

Phenyl acetic acid is used as benzyl equivalent in the literature. However this has not been exploited for the synthesis of benzyl pyridines. This method provides an easy access to synthesis of 2/4 benzyl pyridines. One can also try using 2-bromo pyridines

Why do you think this idea will work? In synthesis of pharmaceutically active intermediates like 2-benzoylpyridines
Do you have any experimental proof? No
Literature reference R. Weiss, OSCV 2, 1943, p61 , J. Bernstein etal, USpatent: 3052721, 1962
Where it is useful? Academic
Do you plan to work on this idea in near future? Yes
Interested in collaboration? Yes
Nature of idea: Theoretical/experimental
